After a few weeks of quiet I wanted to bring this newsletter back in August with lots of fun, light stories. I had a post planned for what to do when you’re a single woman and all your friends are on holiday with their kids, another one on the joy of the back-to-school feeling and this week’s post which was all about what happened when I put down social media and picked up a smutty novel about fairies. But instead I’ve watched temperatures rise and my home country tear itself apart. It’s hard to write about jolly topics when your friends feel scared to leave their houses.
August scheduling will return but in the meantime I thought you might appreciate some of the wisdom, open-heartedness and determination from women in my network who know more about tackling racism, standing up to bullies and generally putting the world to rights than the rest of us.
Collette Philip helps companies embed anti-racism strategies into their brands. In this piece she pulls apart how leaders use racism to distract from bigger issues and why we all let them do it.
Not sure how your business should respond to the riots or how it can support staff? Leyya Sattar, founder of Other Box, lays out what companies need to do to go beyond supporting staff to ensuring they feel safe every day.
If you’re a white person trying to understand why talking to your parents about this topic is so difficult, this piece on the radicalisation of the middle-aged might help.
Yousra Samir Imran talks movingly about the “no-go zones” which have appeared in her home county and her fears for what her son will experience as he grows up.
And finally, this LinkedIn post from Hannah Litt is a beautiful example of what is possible and the joy that still exists when we all come together.

I have barely heard about UK riots on the American news. Thanks for sharing the link.
Also, what is a smutty fairy book?
